"70 Days Without Answers: The Unanswered Questions Surrounding Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia's Death"

11/22/24 - Brian B

It's been 70 days since Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia was pronounced dead at UMass Worcester following what has been described as a "medical crisis" during a boxing training exercise at the Massachusetts State Police Academy. According to his family, some of the severe injuries he sustained included a broken neck, shattered teeth, a broken ankle, and a fractured nose. Having watched countless MMA and boxing matches throughout my life, I’ve never seen a fight result in such devastating injuries.

I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with the Delgado-Garcia family, and the photos of Enrique’s injuries do not align with the description of a “medical crisis.” Despite my best efforts to reach out to Enrique’s former friends and colleagues, no one will speak out. To this day, there is still no medical report. I’ve submitted numerous FOIA requests, only to be denied. Even Special Investigator David Meier has stopped returning my calls.

The Delgado-Garcia family is grieving, and I’ve seen the pain in their eyes firsthand. They, along with the people of Massachusetts, deserve answers. Therefore, I’m calling on Governor Maura Healey, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, and newly appointed Colonel Geoffrey D. Noble of the Massachusetts State Police to provide a public update and statement regarding the death of Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia. You hold positions of authority, and it's time to be transparent. We deserve answers.

"Today Marks 60 Days Since Enrique's Death and Still Nothing": Searching for the Truth in Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia's Death at the MSP Academy.

11/13/24 - Brian B~

Today was a long day. I started off at the Karen Read hearing in Dedham, MA, where I had the chance to sit in court and see special prosecutor Hank Brennan in action for the first time. He seemed to make several questionable moves, and his arguments felt a bit desperate at times.

After the hearing, I headed over to Canton, MA, for the Stronger Together rally in front of DA Michael Morrissey’s office. It was inspiring to see around 150 people standing up for justice, supporting causes like the Free Karen Read movement, Justice for John O'Keefe, Sandra Birchmore, Juston Root, and Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia.

As I moved through the crowd, I was introduced to some of Enrique's extended family members, who were there raising awareness about his case. Some had traveled in from Puerto Rico to be part of the standout. I was so grateful to have my friend and Spanish translator, Beatriz, with me—it made communication with his family smooth and informative.

Without any prior announcement, Enrique's mother and sister were on their way to the standout. After gaining trust with his extended family, I was given the opportunity to meet privately with them for about 30 minutes. Enrique’s mother shared that the family has been following my coverage of his case and expressed their gratitude. When I asked if there were any updates, she said, "Today marks 60 days since Enrique's death, and still nothing, but today we received Enrique's car and possessions back from the academy."

She added, “Going through my son's possessions these past few weeks, I’ve discovered so much about him. He used to donate to the humane society and other various charities, never saying a word about it to boast. It was simply who he was—quietly generous, never one to brag.”

Enrique often spoke to his mother about his training, describing it as very tough and strenuous. He mentioned that allegedly one of the MSP trainers would frequently single him out, saying things like, "You think you’re better than everyone? You think you’re tough just because you’re physically fit!"

As I asked more questions about what happened, she recounted that, at the hospital, doctors had told her about the extent of Enrique’s injuries: broken teeth, two fractured vertebrae, and a broken ankle. Enrique’s aunt showed me photos of him in his hospital bed, which were shocking to see. His mother added that doctors told her the brain injury he suffered was equivalent to being struck at 100 mph. She said, “In my opinion this was not an accident; it was an execution.” She also mentioned, "I wish we could speak out more, but our lawyers are advising us to stay silent for now. I wanted to come here today to quietly be a part of this standout, and I appreciate everything everyone is doing to keep my son’s case alive.”

I’m grateful I had the chance to meet with the Delgado-Garcia family today. I could feel their loss and pain in their eyes. Enrique was truly loved, which was so clear in the photos and videos his family shared with me during our conversation. I assured Enrique’s mother that I would continue to pursue more information about his case and expressed my deep appreciation for her openness with me.

Behind Closed Doors: The Mysterious Death of Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia

10/27/24 - Brian B~

As I write this, it has been 43 days without any updates from the Massachusetts State Police, appointed Special Investigator David Meier, or the mainstream media regarding the incident and death involving Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree on September 12th. Just weeks away from graduating with the 90th Recruit Training Troop class, Delgado-Garcia became what’s been reported in a statement from the Massachusetts State Police by the mainstream media “unresponsive during a defensive boxing tactics exercise in a boxing ring and suffered a medical crisis”. According to his family and reporting by NBC10, that “crisis” included a severe brain injury, broken teeth, and a broken neck, and broken leg all sustained during the self-defense exercise. It’s also been reported that this “exercise” was recorded.

After hearing about what happened to Enrique and my love for boxing, it’s hard to understand how someone could sustain such severe injuries leading to death in a boxing match; it seems impossible unless foul play was involved. Considering the recent track record of the Massachusetts State Police—such as the CDL scandal, the Sandra Birchmore case, and the Karen Read case—I can’t shake the feeling that something is seriously amiss in this situation. I also have a problem that it being recorded. I want to know what’s on that video.

This prompted me to dig deeper. I filed a FOIA request with the Massachusetts State Police and contacted Special Investigator David Meier for answers. Recognizing that this was an active investigation, I knew I might not receive much information, but I felt it was worth a shot. Within a few days, I heard back from Meier’s office Paul Boynton, the Director of Marketing and Business Development, who informed me that they weren't commenting at this time. However, the Massachusetts State Police did provide some information, confirming that the “medical episode” was recorded.

“Second, portions of a video potentially responsive to your request depict Trooper Delgado having a medical episode and shows the medical response.  Information which specifies the nature of an individual’s medical condition is inherently personal in nature. Brogan v. School Comm. Of Westport, 401 Mass. 306, 309 (1987).  Moreover, an individual’s privacy interest in medical information survives death. Globe Newspaper Co. v. Chief Medical Examiner, 404 Mass. 132, 134 (1989).   Given the fact that a medical event is depicted, that portion of the video is not subject to public dissemination pursuant to G.L. c. 4, §7, cl. 26(c).”

Essentially, the Massachusetts State Police are keeping this recorded “training exercise” protected under HIPAA laws. Recognizing that this could easily be swept under the rug, I refused to stay silent. I wanted to raise my voice and demand answers, insisting on full transparency about what happened to Enrique, I took to my channel. I knew after having multitude of conversations regarding Enrique's case some sources would eventually come forward. And they did. I’ll try to make this easy and clear up some misinformation along with releasing some new information in a highlight format to make it easier to follow.

In no particular order

1. The Delgado-Garcia family has no language barrier; they understand everything that or has happened. However, most were born here and those whom weren’t born here may be unfamiliar with our systems and laws, their lawyers have advised them not to speak publicly at this time. They’ve also been cautioned against participating in any protests or maintaining a strong social media presence right now. Rest assured; they are closely monitoring the situation and are very thankful for everything that’s being done to help.

I would like to reassure his friends, cousins, and extended family that they are "Eres bienvenido a utilizar mi plataforma y puede expresar sus inquietudes o inquietudes en cualquier momento contactándose conmigo a través de mi dirección de correo electrónico." (You are welcome to use my platform and you may express your worries or concerns at any time by contacting me through my email address) letstalklivepodcast@gmail.com

2. A bilingual Spanish translator attended DA Joe Early's press conference on September 16. On that morning, the family was invited to Early's office for a "remembrance" gathering to collect some of Enrique’s belongings. Many employees shared fond memories of working with him and expressed their admiration; memories of items Enrique had made or shared with them, which they loved. The gathering was meant to support the family. However, they were unaware that the press conference was scheduled to take place immediately afterward, a detail strategically arranged by the DA’s office. My source revealed that they informed the family about the press conference before they arrived, ensuring a translator was present to avoid any surprises. After the remembrance gathering, the family had to pass through the area where the press conference was being held to exit the building, effectively drawing them in which contributed to the strange atmosphere during the press conference.

3. First aid was administered to Enrique, but when it became clear that it wasn’t effective, the onsite medical unit was called in and worked on him for ten minutes. Unfortunately, valuable time was lost before the ambulance arrived, and he was placed on life support during the transport to the hospital, as he was an organ donor.

4. The accusations of “bets” being placed on fights is highly possible.

5. Among the other injuries reported by the family Enrique suffered a broken nose as well which leads me to believe NO safety gear was worn or present during this “boxing exercise”.

6. This is being framed in the mainstream media as a “medical crisis” to obscure what really happened to Enrique. Don’t be misled by this narrative. The way it’s being publicized serves to distract from the truth, and the family is deeply concerned that this will cause people to lose focus on the real issues at hand.

7. Have you ever heard of a Billy club…? (Hint, Hint)

8. A few cadets were let go from the academy just prior to Enrique's death and one after. (More on this coming soon

9. When Mass State Police and their officials showed up at UMASS Worcester everything went on lockdown. Nurses were separated and no one was allowed to talk.

10. Enrique's family has confirmed he did not suffer from any prior medical conditions, nor suffer from Sickle Cell disease.  He was admitted to without any contingencies to the Mass State Police academy after completing his physical and obtaining the green light on his medical records prior to.

As we work to uncover the truth about what transpired on September 12th, it’s vital to stay vigilant and informed. The voices of those close to Enrique and the evidence surrounding this case must not be overlooked. This is not merely about one person's tragic fate; it’s about accountability, justice, and the urgent need for systemic change within the Massachusetts State Police and its training protocols. Enrique’s family and supporters are resolute in ensuring that his story is heard and that the truth comes to light. We must advocate for transparency and demand answers that honor Enrique’s legacy and uphold the values of justice and integrity. While the Governor and Mass State Police officials, through AG Andrea Campbell, express their support for Enrique and his family, it’s essential to recognize that hidden agendas can complicate the pursuit of justice. We hope that the pursuit of truth and justice for someone who sought to serve his community with the highest standards will encourage everyone to stand firmly for truth and justice for Enrique Delgado.
